Re: The Good Ole Days :-)
I remember, when I was growing up, at Christmas time, watching my Mum, getting the house ready for Christmas. Decorating things, hanging up Christmas Cards sent by my very large in number, family. I remember, & even feel how excited I was like there were no problems in the Whole World at Christmas time. That all people had beautiful homes, & Big Families to love them, & all children had a, Mum & a, Dad, & that Santa was real, & coming to everyones house. We had two fireplaces, in our Federation house, in Sydney.
Our home was a nice home, & a Protected home, it was one of the first built at that time. I had no idea at that time, & age that not every child, & people had all that they needed, I just thought everyone was equal. Child like faith, it's very precious, & something I treasure in my heart.
I also was in awe of the smells, & perfumes in the air, at Christmas time. From the Pine fragrance which wafted all over me, from the Large Christmas Tree always a fresh one that Dad would take us to choice, from the grower somewhere in the country, before Christmas. It was so exciting, to go look though hundreds of Christmas Tree's still growing on the Farms. My sister & I would run through them, playing games, while looking for the biggest, & best, for our Christmas time, Celebrations!!
Also, the fun of decorating the Christmas Tree, & all the beautiful decorations, Tinsel, Animals, Toys, Flowers, Sparkling Balls, & Stars, & The Fairy, on the Top!!
We listened to, & watched all the Christmas Stories, & Christmas Carols. Watched Mum write on Christmas Cards, & post them to all, we wrote our letter to Santa, got butterflies in our tummies, just thinking about Santa coming to our house, with gifts for us all!!!!:)
The Smell of the delicious Christmas foods Mum cooked, for our feast. Mum & Dad are both Christians, & we NEVER left the Birth of, JESUS CHRIST, out of Christmas. Mum would have a Nativity ornament on the shelf in the Lounge room, & along with the fun Carols, we would sing songs to, give Praise for The Birth Of JESUS, too.
I just thought everyone everywhere in the World believed in Santa
a, & JESUS!!
On Christmas Eve, it was nerve wracking for me, I would get so over excited about Santa coming, & I would not be able to sleep. If I did sleep, I would talk loud in my sleep, & sleep walk too. AWWAH!!
Christmas Day, was the best day of the years for me, it's was Magic to say the least!!!!
Yes, they sure were the good old days, for me, oh yes!!!!!
Love & Hugs!
Bella XO :)

Re: The Good Ole Days :-)
Thanks for the well wishes; it went fine but took a while for the drops to wear off. I have new spec's too, I can see!
Hi lovely @Former-Member. Your Xmas sounds like it was a fairytale. Very different to ours I'm afraid. One year my folks didn't have money for Xmas, so they cancelled it. We were too little to understand but it broke their hearts.
I guess I'm asking for stories that totally make this day and age look like a Jetsons cartoon compared to how life was back in the day.
My folks worked 3 jobs so we were cared for by family most of the time. My paternal pop would get drunk and make toasted sandwiches in the toaster; the one with sides that opened. He'd set it alight every time so I'd get on the old black clunky phone. It had a fabric covered cord and no numbers. I turned a handle, waited and asked the lady at the exchange to tell mum about pop. I was only 5 and eldest of 3 girls.
She asked where we lived but I didn't know, so she'd tell me to get my sisters and play outside until parents came home. I remember being quite upset and scared. We didn't have neighbours then either.
Have loved reading your stories too @TAB @Zoe7 @Adge
Hope

Re: The Good Ole Days :-)
I remember those toasters that opened on the side - my grandparents had one @Hope4me - not good trying to make toasted sandwiches in them though lol
It was brave of you as a child to try to get help - it would have been scary for you and your sisters.
